Built on Rural Values.
Guided by Common Sense Principles.
Strengthened by Experience.
The Right Person for these Times.

Bryan Lawrence

Why I’m Running

Minnesota is at a fork in the road. One path continues the Democrats’ anti-rural policies, wasteful spending, rampant inflation, and radical ideologies. The other path on which my campaign will be run is a return to the common sense, time-tested conservative rural principles that bring economic prosperity, job creation, stronger main streets, respect for traditional moral values and the rule of law back to our state. If we are going to change how things work we need someone who has a history of creating change. I am the right person for these times. We need people from outside the political system and outside of government to step up, and use common sense to test each and every policy being considered. I’m committed to being that leader and working tirelessly to ensure a brighter future for the next generation of Minnesotans.

    About Scott

Lifelong resident, husband, father of three, active community volunteer and conservative Republican businessman Scott Van Binsbergen announced his candidacy for State Representative. Van Binsbergen is seeking the Republican endorsement for the District 16A seat in the Minnesota House of Representatives. The district includes nearly all of Chippewa County, all of Renville County, southeast Kandiyohi County and western Meeker County.

Van Binsbergen has knowledge and a long history of job creation and has built and owned successful companies creating hundreds of jobs across western Minnesota and throughout several states over the past 25 years. He has extensive experience in economic development, real estate, insurance, agriculture, banking, and healthcare.

His priorities include pushing back against the overwhelming influence of the growing hard left ideology as he works to protect your traditional values.

“The people of western Minnesota are among the hardest working, most resourceful and resilient in the nation. We need a fighter that will go to work in St. Paul to ensure we have a seat at the table and that our voices are heard and no longer ignored.”

Van Binsbergen is currently the president of Van Binsbergen & Associates which employs over 100 people in five states, and is a past recipient of the SW Minnesota Entrepreneur of the Year award. He has served on many local boards including the Montevideo Chamber of Commerce, United Way, Kiwanis, Hope Reformed Church, and is a member of the West Central Association of Realtors. He has been appointed by three different Minnesota Governors to the Minnesota Board of Accountancy, and is a former board of director for Klein Bank and Old National Bank in Montevideo.

Scott and his wife Clarissa have been married 28 years and have three children, Whitney, Andrew, and Adam. Their family resides in Montevideo.

    On the Issues

Having grown up on our family farm, I know agriculture is the engine that drives our district. We need a leader that will do everything in his power to protect those interests and our communities.

    Economy & Jobs

Being a lifelong resident of this district and building multiple businesses that create jobs, I’m very aware of the challenges that exist in rural Minnesota. We must do everything in our power to protect and grow these rural economies because they are the lifeblood of Minnesota.

    State Surplus and Spending

Last session of the legislature, Democrats spent the entire $17 BILLION surplus on wasteful programs while increasing state spending by nearly 40% and raising taxes! Not surprisingly, future budget projections show a deficit. This unsustainable taxing and spending has to stop.

    Government Regulation

According to the U.S. Small Business Administration, Minnesota is home to over 533,000 small businesses. As a business owner, I see firsthand the negative impact excessive regulations have on small business productivity and growth. I will work to lower small business taxes and roll back excessive regulations that penalize job creators.

Quality education is essential for the success of the next generation. We need to focus on reading, writing, technology, history, and mathematics while allowing parents to guide the moral and ethical development of their children.

    Public Safety

We must equip our law enforcement officers with adequate staffing, training, and technology to perform their duties at the highest level. Additionally, our legal system should effectively convict, incarcerate, and rehabilitate criminals to ensure our communities are safe.

Establishing a sanctuary state poses significant risks to public safety and undermines the rule of law. Moreover, it strains resources and burdens local law enforcement. Ensuring the safety and security of all residents should be a top priority, while also providing immigrants with a pathway to citizenship through appropriate channels.

    Welfare Reform

The “Feeding our Future” scandal in which over $250 million was fraudulently obtained proved once again that welfare fraud is rampant in Minnesota. While there is a place for assisting those most in need, I will demand accountability, timely audits and increased oversight of welfare and human services spending.

    Second Amendment

Gun control has never been an effective method to control crime or reduce mass shootings. I strongly support the right to keep and bear arms and will fight further restrictions on law-abiding gun owners.

Sanctity of Life and Protection of the Unborn

I am a pro-life candidate who supports the protection of life.
