Built on Rural Values.
Guided by Common Sense Principles.
Strengthened by Experience.
Why I’m Running
My mission is to put our state back on a sustainable path after Twin Cities liberals spent the $18 billion surplus, increased state spending by nearly 40 percent and raised taxes by $10 billion when they had unchecked power at the Capitol. There is also a great deal of work that needs to be done to tackle all the fraud that has gripped our state. Fraud in state government doesn’t just happen. Someone allowed it to happen and that must be stopped. Anyone who turned a blind eye to these crimes or was complicit in any way must be held accountable. I will be investigating these matters in full detail and will work tirelessly to ensure a brighter future for the next generation of Minnesotans.

About Scott
Lifelong resident, husband, father of three, active community volunteer and conservative Republican businessman Scott Van Binsbergen announced his re-election campaign for State Representative. Van Binsbergen currently serves the communities of District 16A in the Minnesota House of Representatives. The district includes nearly all of Chippewa County, all of Renville County, southeast Kandiyohi County and western Meeker County.
Van Binsbergen has knowledge and a long history of job creation and has built and owned successful companies creating hundreds of jobs across western Minnesota and throughout several states over the past 25 years. He has extensive experience in economic development, real estate, insurance, agriculture, banking, and healthcare.
His priorities include pushing back against the overwhelming influence of the growing hard left ideology as he works to protect your traditional values.
“The people of rural Minnesota are among the hardest working, most resourceful and resilient in the nation. They deserve a representative who will fight for them every day in St. Paul. I am running for re-election to continue making sure our voices are heard.”
Van Binsbergen is currently the president of Van Binsbergen & Associates which employs over 100 people in five states, and is a past recipient of the SW Minnesota Entrepreneur of the Year award. He has served on many local boards including the Montevideo Chamber of Commerce, United Way, Kiwanis, Hope Reformed Church, and is a member of the West Central Association of Realtors. He has been appointed by three different Minnesota Governors to the Minnesota Board of Accountancy, and is a former board of director for Klein Bank and Old National Bank in Montevideo.
Scott and his wife Clarissa have been married 30 years and have three children, Whitney, Andrew, and Adam. Their family resides in Montevideo.
On the Issues
Agriculture
Having grown up on our family farm, I know agriculture is the engine that drives our district. We need a leader that will do everything in his power to protect those interests and our communities.
Economy & Jobs
Being a lifelong resident of this district and building multiple businesses that create jobs, I’m very aware of the challenges that exist in rural Minnesota. We must do everything in our power to protect and grow these rural economies because they are the lifeblood of Minnesota.
Taxes and Spending
I’ve fought to hold the line on taxes and rein in St. Paul spending — and there’s more work to do. Minnesota families and farmers are still squeezed by property taxes, income taxes, and runaway budgets, and I’m not done fighting to put that money back in your pocket, not the government’s.
Fraud and Abuse
Crack down on the over $9 billion dollars lost to fraud and abuse of taxpayers’ hard-earned money, holding criminals and government agencies accountable for their actions.
Government Regulation
According to the U.S. Small Business Administration, Minnesota is home to over 533,000 small businesses. As a business owner, I see firsthand the negative impact excessive regulations have on small business productivity and growth. I will work to lower small business taxes and roll back excessive regulations that penalize job creators.
Education
Quality education is essential for the success of the next generation. We need to focus on reading, writing, technology, history, and mathematics while allowing parents to guide the moral and ethical development of their children.
Public Safety
We must equip our law enforcement officers with adequate staffing, training, and technology to perform their duties at the highest level. Additionally, our legal system should effectively convict, incarcerate, and rehabilitate criminals to ensure our communities are safe.
Immigration
Establishing a sanctuary state poses significant risks to public safety and undermines the rule of law. Moreover, it strains resources and burdens local law enforcement. Ensuring the safety and security of all residents should be a top priority, while also providing immigrants with a pathway to citizenship through appropriate channels.
Second Amendment
Gun control has never been an effective method to control crime or reduce mass shootings. I strongly support the right to keep and bear arms and will fight further restrictions on law-abiding gun owners.
Sanctity of Life and Protection of the Unborn
I am a pro-life candidate who supports the protection of life.
